The Ayurvedic tradition
Ayurveda, or Ayurvedic medicine, is a very comprehensive and consistent sacred therapeutic science that has been used for over 5000 years, mainly in India. It is also a philosophy and an art of living. In Sanskrit language, "ayur" means "life" and "veda" means "science or knowledge".
Originally, it was the Great Sages of the Himalayas, who, through the observation of nature and its environment, discovered the principle of the five states of matter or five fundamental elements from which the concept of the 3 doshas derives: Vâta, Pitta and Kapha. Like the fingerprints of the hand, the proportion of doshas in each person's constitution and the resulting qualities are unique in each individual. The state of the doshas of a man and a woman at the time of conception is the basis for the constitution of the child. Initially transmitted orally from generation to generation, the Vedic tradition has then been traced in texts in the Sanskrit language, called Vedas.
According to the WHO, Ayurveda is recognised as "a traditional medicine including different health practices, approaches, knowledge and beliefs, using herbal, animal and / or mineral-based medicines, spiritual therapies, manual exercises and techniques, applied alone or in combination, for the purpose of maintaining well-being as well as treating, diagnosing or preventing disease.
